The ARDS Foundation is pleased to announce that Two Scholarships were awarded for the 2009 academic year. The recipients are Richard Baker and Margaret Corr.
Richard is currently attending the Franciscan Skemp Healthcare School of Nurse Anesthesia, where he is pursuing an advanced practice nursing degree, and “Currently, he believes that the anesthetist's goal in treating ARDS is prevention, and initiation specific therapies that support the oxygenation and ventilation of the lungs until the patient can recover from the insult responsible for initiating it.”
Margaret is currently attending the University of Illinois-Chicago, pursuing an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Degree where she hopes “as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, she will be able to provide care in a wide variety of acute and critical care settings. She looks forward to participating in patient care as well as in clinical and/ or scientific research. She is confident that research will be an integral part of her career.”

The Marybeth Monaghen/ARDS Foundation/NA/RHAMC Graduate Advanced Practice Nursing Scholarship is named in honor of Marybeth Monaghen who passed away because of ARDS (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome) in August 1998. She was a registered nurse, a daughter, a sister and a friend. This scholarship is to support the advanced educational pursuits of nursing practitioners that care for and treat patients with respiratory disease.
We wish Margaret and Richard all the best in their pursuits that will one day help patients with ARDS and other lung ailments.
Thanks.
